Can't get Csound to Run

mikeyjardine
I can't get Csound to run on my computer, it  keeps saying "python is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".
Any ideas?

Re: Can't get Csound to Run

Hi Mikey,

Could you mention what operating system you're on, and what CSD are
you trying?  Are you running on the commandline, or using CsoundQT?

Thanks,
steven

RE: Can't get Csound to Run

I'm using Windows Vista. I'm just trying to run a basic synthesizer. I'm running
on CsoundQT.  Do I need to have python installed and added to the DOS path
for Csound to run?

Hi MIkey,

Perhaps someone on Windows could assist here (I'm on Mac mostly these
days). However,  did you install CsoundQT separately from Csound, or
using the one from the Windows Csound installer? It seems to me that
it may be an issue with CsoundQT rather than Csound, as usually when
there is a python related error within Csound the message is
different.  It sounds like CsoundQT is trying to run some python
script, but I'm only guessing here.

Thanks,
steven

Hi Mikey,

Which version of Csound/CsoundQt are you using?

Cheers,

The windows installers have never been kind to those who don't have
Python. Usually one gets a message in the form of 'Python2.6.dll not
found' etc. Is this the error you're getting too?

Hi,
Yes, it sounds like some program is trying to run python.

Could you try to run the attached very simple test csd file,
and try to run it on the command line.
- open a terminal windows from start menu - run - cmd
- cd to the directory where you've put the sinetest.csd
- type
csound sinetest.csd
and hit enter

It would be very strange if you got anything python related when doing
this test.

all best
Oeyvind

The current Windows installers remind the user that, if they wish to
install Python interfaces or features, they must first have installed
Python. The default installation does not include any of these Python
features. The complete installation does include all of them.

Regards,
Mike
